Remember!

  • Unlimited rides for 90 minutes is for an aerial distance of up to 15 km for each ride
  • Although you do not need to pay an additional fare for each ride, you must validate the ticket for every ride!

I have a special travel arrangement on the Rav-Kav card, do I have to validate the card?

Of course! Every ride on the light rail requires validation, including for passengers with a travel arrangement granting them various discounts or exemption from payment, such as a Nationwide Pass, Daily Pass, cadets in pre-army programs, IDF soldiers and those in National Service or in the Service Year.

Validate the card for every ride, regardless of the type of contract you have, including a transfer ride.

Validation using the Rav-Kav card

At the street-level stations – at the validation machine indicate the number of passengers and then hold the Rav-Kav card up to the machine to validate. If you want to change the number of passengers hold the Rav-Kav card up to the machine again, change the number of passengers and wait for confirmation.

At the underground stations – first validate at the ticket machines for the number of passengers, then go to the entrance gate on the platform, hold the Rav-Kav card up to the gate and wait until all the passengers for whom you are validating the card go through the gate.

Validation using apps at all types of stations – select the number of passengers and wait to receive QR codes as the number of passengers indicated.

Please note! When exiting an underground station you must scan the QR code at the exit gate for each of the passengers.

Can a card be validated for several passengers?

Multi-passenger card validation is only possible with a travel arrangement of the Stored Value type loaded without a special discount or loaded for a youth profile.

Where are the ticket machines located and what transactions can be performed on the machine?

Ticket machines are located at all 34 Dankal stations and are accessible to all passengers.

Use the ticket machines for the following:

Load a Rav-Kav card.

  • Purchase an empty Anonymous Rav-Kav card or loaded with a travel arrangement only for riding the Red Line.
  • Check the remaining amount on the card and the most recent transactions on the Rav-Kav card.
  • Multi-passenger validation, only for Stored Value and youth ticket type travel arrangements.
  • Validate the card and select a destination.

Please note! The ticket machines have a voice user interface for persons with a visual disability, and an audio induction loop for passengers using a hearing aid.

Are soldiers and security personnel also required to validate their ticket?

All passengers must validate their ticket, including soldiers on active duty who are exempt from payment, cadets in a pre-army preparatory program or a half-year program, National Service volunteers and Service Year volunteers.

How do you validate a ride on the Dankal light rail?

Validation using the Rav-Kav card

  • At street-level stations validate the ride before boarding the train using the validation machines found on the station platforms.
  • When the travel distance is more than 15 km, you will have to select the destination station to determine the fare.

At the underground stations hold the Rav-Kav card up to the entrance and exit gate ticket scanner.

Ticket validation using a mobile phone (apps)

·         Download one of the public transportation payment apps from the app store on your smart device: MoovitPANGO, HopOn Rav-Pass, Cello or ZUZU (only for soldiers), and register to the service.

  • When entering and exiting the underground stations you must scan the QR code at the station gate for each of the passengers.
  • You will receive a QR code to your smart device.
  • At the street-level stations you can board the train and there is no need to hold the smart device up to the validation machine.
  • At the underground stations you must scan the QR code you received at the entrance and the exit gate.
What is the validation requirement?

The validation requirement in Israel was established in accordance with Ministry of Transportation guidelines and applies to all types of Rav-Kav cards and to the apps, for every ride and regardless of the passenger’s profile which grants eligibility for a discount or a free ride, including citizens age 75 and above.

The Dankal Red Line is a “semi-open system”. At street level stations validation is based on trust in the passengers who must pay for and validate the Rav-Kav card or app independently without being checked at the gate or by the driver. At the underground stations passengers must pay for and validate the Rav-Kav card or app at the entrance gate and the exit gate.

According to the law and to Ministry of Transportation guidelines, passengers must have the suitable ticket before boarding the light rail, validate it using the validation machine and verify that it was properly validated. Passengers found riding the light rail without a ticket or with a ticket that was not properly validated will be charged an increased fare.
